(Ages 8-17)

Perks for joining the team

  • Team members will have a full access membership to the gym during current season.
  • Parents get intro classes! We want the parents of team members to be able to belay for their kids. Not only will the parents be able to belay their kids outside of practice, but you can also start to understand and relate to your kid’s sport and be more involved.
  • All the kids will learn to belay and will belay for each other when appropriate age.
  • Kids who are in age categories that lead climb will learn to lead, all other kids of appropriate ability level will start to lead climb as well.
  • The kids will have access to discounted shoes and climbing gear through several other companies.

The Grippers Climbing Team welcomes youth of all skill levels looking to challenge themselves in a competitive climbing format. This competitive sport engages students with physical and mental challenges through climbing and competition with opportunities for improvement, leadership, and teamwork. Coaches support each individual in their unique development as a climber, while fostering a safe and supportive team environment. Team members will participate in a number of local bouldering and sport climbing competitions with the opportunity to progress to regional and national competitions.

ABS

  • Bouldering
  • September through December (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • ABS National Championships for qualifying competitors in March

SCS

  • Tope rope and sport climbing
  • February through May (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • SCS National Championships for qualifying competitors in July

Tryouts are open to all motivated climbers who are committed to improving their climbing. A good attitude and willingness to work hard are more important than current climbing ability.

Competitions occur on Saturdays and will be chosen by the head coach.

Team enrollment Fees

Fees cover coaching during practice and at local competitions, along with coaching at the Regional, Divisional and National Bouldering Championships.

Many schools award PE credits for Team participation—please speak with your PE Department and the IRG to coordinate.
